Methods of Treatment

What types of prosthetics are available in Turkish clinics?

Turkish clinics offer various types of prosthetics, including hip and knee replacement, shoulder and elbow replacement, and hand and foot replacement. Modern materials and technologies ensure high quality and durability of prosthetics, which helps patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life. In addition, prosthetic surgeries are performed for patients with congenital pathologies and after injuries.

What surgical and non-surgical treatment methods are used in orthopedics?

Turkish clinics use both surgical and non-surgical methods of treating orthopedic diseases. Among them:
Surgical methods:

Arthroscopy — minimally invasive joint surgeries.
Endoprosthetics — joint replacement (hip, knee and others).
Bone deformity correction — surgeries to correct scoliosis, congenital deformities.
Reconstructive surgery — restoration of limb function after injuries.
The robot-assisted Spine Assist system is widely used to correct degenerative spinal disorders. The system is a passive robotic device that allows for minimally invasive surgeries to install spinal stabilizing systems with very high accuracy. Among other things, the system reduces the radiation load on the patient and minimizes the use of intraoperative X-rays.

One example of this approach is the ZIP ULTRA device — a metal implant that is installed between the vertebrae using a minimally invasive operation and is attached without the use of screws. The implant has a hole where the doctor places bone cement, which subsequently fuses with the vertebral tissues, fixing the implant.
Non-surgical methods:

Physiotherapy and exercise therapy - restoration of muscle mobility and strength.
Medication - anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving drugs.
Orthoses and braces - to correct deformities and support joints.
Steroid injections - to reduce inflammation and pain.

What are the lengths of stay and recovery after orthopedic surgeries?

The length of stay and recovery depends on the type of surgery and the individual characteristics of the patient. For example, after hip or knee replacement, patients typically stay in the clinic for 5-10 days. Recovery can take from a few weeks to several months. Rehabilitation includes physical therapy and exercises to restore mobility and strength. Full recovery can take up to a year, but significant improvement is seen within a few months.

What documents and medical data do I need to provide to receive orthopedic treatment?

To receive orthopedic treatment, you must provide the following documents and data:

Medical history - a detailed description of previous illnesses and surgeries.
Diagnostic results - MRI, CT, X-ray and other examinations.
Blood tests and other laboratory tests - to assess your general health.
Recommendations from your attending physician - a conclusion and recommendations for treatment.
Personal documents - passport, medical insurance (if any).
Additional documents may be required to accurately assess the patient's condition and develop an individual treatment plan. Leave your phone number, and our consultant will provide a list of the required data based on your situation: from the initial referral and preparation of a treatment plan and travel.
If you need to clarify any points, we will arrange a consultation. Based on the results of document processing and the diagnosis, our specialists will select a clinic and a doctor.

Can I get a second opinion from Turkish specialists before starting treatment?

Meddays specialists will arrange an online consultation for you to get a second opinion and answers on diagnostics and treatment.
To do this, you need to provide documents: all available medical data, such as test results, diagnostics and doctors' opinions. We will translate them into Turkish, personally select a clinic and transfer the documents to a doctor with a specialization.
The doctor analyzes the data and provides recommendations for treatment, after which you can get an online consultation.
After payment and resolving organizational issues, we organize an online call with the doctor with the participation of an interpreter.

What are the success rates and statistics of orthopedic surgeries in Turkey?

Many Turkish clinics are internationally accredited and employ advanced treatment methods. Statistics show a high success rate for joint replacement surgeries, scoliosis treatment and other orthopedic problems.

1. Success rate of joint replacement surgeries.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Health, the success rate of hip and knee replacement surgeries in Turkish clinics is over 95%. This puts Turkey on par with leading global orthopedic centers such as the United States and Germany.

2. Number of surgeries.
More than 150,000 orthopedic surgeries are performed in Turkey every year. This includes both simple interventions and complex reconstructive procedures, which demonstrates the high qualifications of Turkish surgeons and their experience in working with a wide range of orthopedic diseases.

3. Minimally invasive methods.
Around 60% of all orthopedic surgeries in Turkey are performed using minimally invasive techniques, which reduces the risk of complications, shortens recovery time and minimizes pain for the patient. For example, knee and shoulder arthroscopy is performed with a high success rate and allows patients to return to normal life within a few weeks after surgery.

4. Rehabilitation and recovery.
Up to 90% of patients who have undergone orthopedic surgeries in Turkey report a significant improvement in their quality of life and full recovery of motor functions within the first year after surgery.

How is the process of selecting and installing a prosthesis organized?

The process of choosing and installing a prosthesis includes several stages:

Initial consultation — assessing the patient's condition and determining the need for prosthetics.
Diagnostics — conducting the necessary examinations to accurately assess the problem.
Choosing a prosthesis — based on the patient's anatomical features and the type of surgery.
Preparing for surgery — including preoperative tests and consultations.
Installing a prosthesis — surgical intervention under anesthesia.
Postoperative care — observation and beginning of rehabilitation.

Is it possible to perform minimally invasive orthopedic operations?

Yes, it is. Turkish clinics actively use minimally invasive surgical methods, such as arthroscopy and endoscopic surgery. These methods help minimize injuries, reduce recovery time and reduce the risk of complications. Minimally invasive surgeries are often used to treat meniscus and ligament injuries, as well as joint replacement.

What diagnostic methods are used to assess orthopedic problems?

Turkish clinics use advanced diagnostic methods to assess orthopedic problems. The main methods include:

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - for detailed examination of the condition of bones and soft tissues.
Computer tomography (CT) - for accurate imaging of bone structures.
X-ray - for initial assessment of the condition of bones and joints.
Ultrasound (US) - for assessment of the condition of soft tissues and joints.
Arthroscopy - a minimally invasive method that allows diagnosing and treating intra-articular injuries.
EOS Imaging System - allows you to get high-quality images of the whole body in a standing position with a minimal dose of radiation. Unlike traditional X-ray machines, EOS reduces the radiation dose up to 10 times, making it safe for children and patients who require regular examinations.
Three-dimensional computed tomography (3D CT) based on CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) — uses a cone-shaped beam of X-rays to obtain highly detailed 3D images of bone structures with minimal radiation exposure.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with joint analysis function (MRI Arthrography) — for a detailed assessment of joint pathologies, including damage to cartilage, ligaments and tendons.
Ultrasound elastography — allows you to measure the stiffness and elasticity of soft tissues and tendons.
Biomechanical assessment of movement using 3D motion tracking — allows you to analyze the biomechanics of a patient's movements in real time and helps to identify deviations from the norm.
